Privacy Policy
Zebra.vote LLC Effective: April 21, 2026
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how Zebra.vote LLC ("Zebra," "we," "us") collects, uses, shares, and protects information about you when you use zebra.vote ("the Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this Policy.
The Service is offered only to residents of the United States aged 18 or older.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide
- Account information. Email address and password when you register.
- Address information. Your declared residential address, which we use to resolve the jurisdictions that apply to you.
- Identity verification information. If you upgrade to Level 3, you complete identity verification through Stripe Identity. You submit a government-issued identification document and a photograph or video of yourself directly to Stripe. Zebra.vote LLC does not receive the identification document image or the biometric data. We receive only the verification result, the identity-proven address, and associated metadata Stripe returns to complete your upgrade.
- Payment information. If you pay the $7.42 verification fee, your payment card information is submitted directly to Stripe, Inc. Zebra.vote LLC does not receive or store full card numbers. We receive only tokens and metadata necessary to record that payment was made.
- Civic positions. The positions you record on government actions along the various civic axes, associated with your account.
- Correspondence. Content of emails, support requests, and other communications you send us.
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Technical information. IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, and referring URL.
- Usage information. Pages viewed, actions taken, timestamps, and session identifiers.
- Cookies and similar technologies. Session cookies to keep you signed in and security cookies to protect against fraud. We do not use advertising cookies and we do not permit third-party advertising trackers on the Service.
2.3 Information From Third Parties
- Stripe. Verification outcomes, payment status, and identity-proven address data as described above.
- Content delivery and security providers. Logs related to request routing, performance, and threat detection.
3. How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and maintain your account.
- Resolve the jurisdictions applicable to your address and personalize the government actions displayed to you.
- Process payment and identity verification.
- Record and display your civic positions, and aggregate them into public tallies.
- Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms of Service, including duplicate accounts and false address claims.
- Communicate with you about your account, payment, verification status, and material changes to the Service.
- Operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Service.
- Comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell personal information. We do not use your personal information to target advertising. We do not rent or share your personal information with advertisers or data brokers.
4. How We Share Information
4.1 Service Providers
We share information with service providers who help us operate the Service, including:
- Stripe, Inc. — payment processing and identity verification.
- Content delivery and security providers — a CDN and edge-security provider that routes traffic to our servers and filters abusive requests.
- Email provider — for transactional email, including account confirmations, verification status updates, and password resets.
Service providers are contractually restricted to using information only to provide services to us.
4.2 Public Civic Data
The Service publishes aggregate tallies — counts of yes, no, and maybe positions at each verification tier, and combined counts across tiers — as the civic record. These tallies do not identify individual users. We do not publish lists identifying which users held which positions.
4.3 Blockchain Anchoring
The Service periodically commits tamper-evident cryptographic summaries ("anchors") of the civic record to the Bitcoin blockchain. These anchors are one-way hash commitments. They do not publish your individual identity, your individual position, or any other content beyond a mathematical commitment to the integrity of the record at a point in time. Anyone observing the Bitcoin blockchain cannot derive your identity or positions from an anchor.
4.4 Legal Process
We may disclose information in response to subpoenas, court orders, or other legal process, or where we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, the rights of our users, or public safety.
4.5 Business Transfers
If Zebra.vote LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, user information may be transferred as part of that transaction. Any successor entity will be bound by this Privacy Policy or an equivalently protective successor.
5. Data Retention
- Account data. We retain account data (email, declared address, verification status) while your account is active and for a reasonable period thereafter to address disputes, prevent fraud, and comply with legal obligations.
- Civic positions. Positions that are unlocked are retained while your account is active. Positions that have been locked at a key event are permanent components of the civic record and are retained indefinitely in a form necessary to preserve the integrity of aggregate tallies and anchor commitments. When you delete your account, we detach identifying information from locked positions where technically feasible; the anonymized contribution to the tally remains.
- Payment and verification records. Retained as required by Stripe's terms, applicable tax and financial record-keeping law, and anti-fraud obligations.
- Technical logs. Retained for a limited period (typically no more than 90 days) for security, debugging, and abuse detection.
6. Your Rights and Choices
You have the following rights regarding your personal information:
- Access. You may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correction. You may update your declared address, email, and other account information from your account settings, or by contacting us.
- Deletion. You may delete your account at any time. Account deletion removes your account data and your unlocked positions. Locked positions remain in the civic record as described in Section 5; identifying associations to your account are removed where technically feasible.
- Communications. You may opt out of non-essential emails through the unsubscribe link included in each such email. Essential emails — account security, payment confirmations, legal notices — will continue while your account is active.
To exercise these rights, contact us at the email address below. We will respond within a reasonable time and will verify your identity before acting on a request.
7. Security
We use technical and organizational measures designed to protect personal information, including encryption in transit (TLS), restricted access controls, bot and fraud protection at our network edge, and server-side controls. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
If we learn of a security incident that affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by applicable law.
8. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 18, we will delete it. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at the email address below.
9. United States Only
The Service is offered only to residents of the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, you do so at your own initiative and are responsible for compliance with local law. We do not intend to subject the Service to data protection laws of other countries, including the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by email to the address on your account and by notice on the Service. The "Effective" date at the top of this Policy indicates when it was last revised. Your continued use of the Service after a change becomes effective constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
